Mr. Vegas has chalked up another number one hit song after being out of Jamaica for a while, with the song “Last Week” (Constant Spring). The song topped the Jamaican charts on Richie B’s Hit List, Hype TVs top 10 and Mega Jamzs top 20 Dancehall Chart and Entertainment Reports Top 10 Chart.

I hardly knew about the imprisoned reggae artist Jah Cure until his songs I Know Jah Jah Bless Me and Longing For became Number One hits in 2004, remaining so for several weeks and months and making him even more popular. The journalist in me was intrigued by the growing number of calls on radio and stage shows to Free Jah Cure, and I decided to learn more about this interesting piece of music history.

“Yuh free paper bun”–you will hear this expression at the ending of any holiday. It means, “your time is up!” Whenever its time to return to school or get back on the job, we signify this by saying yuh free paper bun. ‘Bun in this case means burn.
