The Montreal International Reggae Festival (MIRF) returns to the Quays of The Old Port with a slate of renowned artists who carry on the legacy of Caribbean music. Original Wailers member, Bunny Wailer, makes his long awaited Montreal appearance at this seventh staging of what has become a tradition for Reggae music supporters from around the world. Beginning late summer, the festival rolls out at a new time frame: August 6, 7 and 8, 2010.

Sunday Afternoon in the Gap

Sitting on the porch of my host family’s home one Sunday afternoon during my recent trip to Hagley Gap, I glanced up from my computer. I was distracted from my work by a group of boys playing with their toy cars. They were in the midst of repairing a car that had lost a wheel and discussing the quality of the repair underway.

Irie Jamboree Not Irie This Year – Not Happening

irie  jamboree backdrop 2004In Queens, New York, the executive team for Irie Jamboree, the popular Labor Day weekend stage show, made the decision to forgo the show this year. The executive committee, comprised of Robert Clarke, Steven Williams, Louie Grant, and Michael Williams, sent out a notice on July 17, 2010 of their postponement and that they are planning for the 2011 year. They gave the following statement as to their cancellation this year:

Jahworks Remembers Sugar Minott

Sugar Minott, 54, a smooth-voiced singer and producer who helped popularize reggae music, died Saturday, July 10, 2010 at the University Hospital of the West Indies in Kingston, Jamaica, said Maxine Stowe, his wife. She did not disclose the cause of death, although a heart condition is suspected.
