Ocho Rios, JAMAICA – A spectacular display of outfits from Uzuri International created quite a buzz at the staging of the Fabulous Fashions & Fantasy 2000 show, held on December 9 at Ocho Rios’ Little Pub. The event, which attracted a rather small turnout, lived up to expectations with high caliber clothing and dynamic runway models.

Leading the stellar lineup of models were Pulse Supermodel Reshima Hemmings, Miss Jamaica World Surrey 2000 and Miss Jamaica International 2000 Melanie Owen, Pulse Fashion Model 2000 Naomi Garrick, Mr. Manhunt Jamaica 1999 Kirk Headley, Miss Teen Jamaica Gail Davis and D Ray Buchanan, among others. Eva Myers from Evita’s Italian Restaurant appeared as a guest model.

“Rhythms of Africa” was the opening segment of the show where the models paraded in easy, comfortable, flowing and cool outfits. Emphasis was on body ease, with the use of bagasse (crocus bag) as head wraps. The outfits were elegant.

The next segment of the show featured outfits in traditional colours mixed with untraditional textures. The designs brought the small crowd alive, as the models sashayed their frames down the runway amidst catcalls and whistles.

The designers’ use of frills, linen, suede and leather were quite creative. Sheryl Robinson’s Polka Dots Swimwear Collection was another of the show’s highlights, along with the outfits worn by the male models, which came courtesy of Les Campbell.

Rising dancehall sensation CeCile performed during the intermission segment of the show. She performed a nice set which included songs “Wish You Never Lied to Me,” “Good Time” and “Best of Me.” But it was her current chart-topper “Changez” which brought the patrons to their feet, as they sang along word for word.
